Mathry, Pembrokeshire

The Farmers Arms Mathry, Pembrokeshire

Mathry was the birthplace of Jemima Fawr, a Welsh heroine who led the women of Pembrokeshire into battle in what is known as the last invasion of Britain in 1797. Local heroine Jemima single handedly captured many of the invaders and the Frenchmen later negotiated their surrender at the Royal Oak inn and laid down their arms on Goodwick Sands. The invasion is commemorated by an imposing and internationally famous tapestry which is on display at the Last Invasion Gallery in Fishguard Town Hall. Mathry is a lovely little village that includes The Farmers Arms Pub where the food is often homemade and is always excellent.
