Walking Yr Eifl, Llyn Peninsula

Yr Eifl, or The Rivals, is the highest point on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales and has three summits. Garn Ganol, the central summit, is the highest at 564m, followed by Tre’r Ceiri (485m) and Garn For (444m). This trio of hills offer rugged walking and great views and can be easily seen from Anglesey and the major mountains of north western Snowdonia.

Although the 4.5 mile route can be rough underfoot, these hills have a long history with extensive Iron Age ruins. Tre’r Ceiri has one of the best examples of a prehistoric hill fort in Northern Europe.

The best place to start the walk is on the road to Nant Gwrtheyrn - a former quarry village, which is now home to a Welsh language teaching centre. From the car park, walk along the track you can see working its way across the side of the hill and you will come to Bwlch Yr Eifl, between Garn For and Garn Ganol, the highest point on the peninsula.
