Enillydd Gwobr Y Gorau o Gymru 2015 / Best of Wales Award Winner 2015

Bob blwyddyn rydym fel cwmni yn noddi gwobr Y Gorau o Gymru, sydd yn gwbrywo y myfyriwr sy’n arddangos rhagoriaeth trwy astudiaeth busnes yn yr iaith Gymraeg. Eleni yr enillydd oedd Megi Williams o Ben Llŷn.

Yn ogystal â gwobr ariannol o £250, rydym hefyd yn cynnig profiad gwaith gyda’r cwmni i roi cychwyn cadarn i’r enillydd yn y byd gwaith. Ond eleni mae Megi wedi sicrhau cyflogaeth yn barod ac rydym yn dymuno pob lwc iddi yn y dyfodol.

Meddai Megi: “Roedd y wobr yn sioc go iawn. Doeddwn i ddim yn ei disgwyl o gwbl, ond dwi’n hynod o ddiolchgar. Mae wir yn rhoi hwb ychwanegol ar yr hyn a oedd yn ddiwrnod graddio gwych i mi. Roedd graddio yn deimlad gwych, ond efo chydig o dristwch o wbod mai hwn oedd fy niwrnod olaf fel myfyriwraig yn Aberystwyth – tair blynedd orau fy mywyd hyd yn hyn ”

Each year as a company we sponsor the Best of Wales award in conjunction with Aberystwyth University, which recognises a student who displays excellence through business study in the Welsh language. And this year we are pleased to announce that the winner is Megi Williams from the Llyn Peninsula.

As part of the prize the winner is awarded £250 as well as a work placement with us to give them experience and assistance to the first steps of the working world. However this year Megi has already secured a post and we wish her well in the future.

Megi said:

“The award was a shock to me. I was not expecting to win it at all, but i am extremely grateful. It certainly has given me an extra lift on my graduation day. Graduation was a wonderful feeling, tinged with a little sadness that it would be my last day in Aberystwyth – the best three years of my life so far.”

Best of Wales supporting Julies3peaks challenge

On the weekend of the 15th and 16th of August 2016, a group of friends from across the UK will come together to raise money for Headway Cardiff  by taking part in the ‘Julies3peaks Challenge’. This will involve climbing Wales’ 3 famous mountains, Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan.

Julie is a personal friend of several Best of Wales  staff members and we are happy to be able to support this challenge. When Julie first suffered a brain haemorrhage some 7 years ago doctors told her she was unlikely to survive 24 hours.  Since then she has been living with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and has been able to call on the valuable help and support offered by the Headway Charity.

This challenge was a personal goal for Julie but unfortunately in February 2015 she suffered a second haemorrhage that left her unable to complete the challenge. This is when a group of her friends and family stepped in to do it on her behalf.

All donations can be made on the just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/julies3peaks/

Best of Wales attend Downing Street to mark Small Business Saturday

We were pleased to be one of less than 100 businesses from around the country invited to represent the UK’s 5.2 million small businesses in Downing Street on Friday to mark the UK’s second Small Business Saturday the following day – on December 6th – when small, independent businesses in communities across the country were put in the national spotlight.

Our Marketing Manager Lisa Jenkins attended a Small Business Saturday Christmas fair inside Downing Street in the company of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne.

Small businesses around the UK planned events, promotions and other activities to attract clients and customers to them both on December 6th but also as a way of creating a mindset for people to more readily think of doing business with small, local companies. Already more than 30,000 small businesses around the UK have engaged with the campaign on various social media platforms, many of which have downloaded marketing packs and posters to display on their premises.

“The first Small Business Saturday last year was an exceptional example of collaboration and co-operation with small businesses teaming up in communities around the UK,” explains National Campaign Director Michelle Ovens.

“We always said we wanted this to be the start of something amazing; a regular event that shines a light on small businesses throughout the UK in a way which is hugely beneficial to both the local and the national economy. Small Business Saturday reinforces that message and demonstrates the level of diversity, innovation and talent that is active within our small business sector,” Michelle adds.

Michelle goes onto say that, with 5.2 million small businesses in the UK, the chances are that if you don’t own one, then you work for one or know somebody who does.

“This isn’t some abstract economic concept,” she says. “This is personal. It’s about getting out and supporting your friends, your neighbours and your family members and reinforcing your local community and economy.”

Speaking about Small Business Saturday 2014, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, comments:

“Britain’s small business owners deserve our support. They are the ones who take the risks to create new opportunities and new jobs, that show off British ingenuity and innovation and I am glad that once again they will be able to be the focus of all our attention and support.”

Lisa Jenkins added “It was a great opportunity to visit Downing Street and meet the other businesses, and also to support Small Business Saturday UK”.

Small Business Saturday UK has attracted the support of leading business organisations including Federation of Small Businesses, the Association of City and Town Management, Association of Convenience Stores, Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association, as well as corporates like American Express, O2, Lloyds Bank and NatWest and prominent entrepreneurs Theo Paphitis, Karren Brady and Martha Lane Fox.

Best of Wales Award Winner / Enillydd Gwobr Y Gorau o Gymru

Originally from Bangor, Gwenno graduated with a Business and Management degree from Aberystwyth University in June this year. After recently moving down to Cardiff, she now looks forward to familiarizing with her role as project manager. This opportunity surfaced after she received the Best of Wales award for being the Welsh medium business student of the year at Aberystwyth University.

A vast amount of her experiences, which resulted from her interest in sports, music and socializing, has sealed her appreciation and gratitude towards the country and its treasures. With family members located all over Wales, she has fond childhood memories of spending summers along the coasts of the Llyn Peninsula and amongst Carmarthenshire’s delightful countryside. Therefore, promoting holiday cottages in Wales, amongst its glorious landscapes, is a very exciting prospect for Gwenno as she embarks on her professional career.
