Luxury Ceredigion self catering cottage, West Wales
Stabal yr Eglwys is a luxury Ceredigion self catering cottage, situated just 20 minutes from the coast, next to the 12th century church of the small village, Llanwenog. The surrounding trees (including private woodland) and wild flowers help the local wildlife thrive, resulting in plenty of birdsong. This tranquil location provides an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area by bicycle or foot. The property has a lockable outhouse for the storage of golfing, walking, angling, other outdoor equipment and up to four bicycles.
Kitchen - This Ceredigion self catering cottage boasts a farmhouse style with a large reclining leather sofa at one end ideal for simply relaxing or listening to music, plus a chest of drawers and antique cricket table. Facilities include: hob, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge with freezing compartment and washing machine in outhouse laundry room. Pine kitchen table with seating for six. Aga type stove for cooking, central heating and hot water. Slate slab floor with large rugs by the sofa.
Main, en-suite bedroom: King size bed, pine chest of drawers, bedside cupboards and free standing large pine wardrobe. Digital TV with remote control. Antique Welsh quilt hanging on wall above the bed—purchased locally from a private collection. Wooden floor with rugs. Ensuite shower room has a marble floor with wash basin, toilet, shower cubicle and heated towel rail.
Twin bedroom: Pine beds and wicker bedside tables. Wicker and wood chest of drawers and built in pine wardrobe which also houses the hot water tank so your clothes are always warm and aired. Pure cotton sheets and Laura Ashley bedspreads. Wooden floor with rugs/ Digital TV with remote control.
Bathroom: Victorian style bath with shower attachment, toilet, washbasin and heated towel rail with black and white tiles throughout. This bathroom is right next to the twin bedroom.
Laundry room: The old stone pigsty. Now completely renovated but with original features such as beams and all the stone walls. It houses a washing machine, tumble dryer, clothes horse, small chest freezer, barbecue utensils including free bag of charcoal and small badminton set. It also has ample storage space for outdoor equipment and is locked separately.
Gallery sitting room: Access to this room is via an open pine staircase (complete with metal rods above each tread for infant safety) leading up from the kitchen. The area contains two leather sofas, coffee table, digital TV on an oak table and a large rug on solid oak floor. An outside stone staircase, one of the original features, leads down from the window to the ground and has new railings.
The Stone purpose-built barbecue allows guests at this Ceredigion self catering cottage to enjoy their food from the comfort of a designated area near the tranquil church. It is accessible from the gallery and benefits from a window to the kitchen where plates, food and drink can be passed directly when needed.
The garden also includes a wooden seat, wooden table with attached bench, another wooden table with six wooden canvas director chairs and a large sun umbrella.
The large lawn area is perfect for badminton (full set provided) and other lawn games.
Welcome pack on arrival includes tea and coffee, bara brith and fresh flowers (in season).
Electricity & Oil central heating included.
Bed linen and towels provided
Wifi available free of charge.
The following are all provided at the cottage for your stay… Kitchen: food essentials such as sugar , salt and pepper and some milk. Washing up liquid, washing machine tablets. Bathroom: toilet rolls. General cleaning products: dusters, vacum cleaner, cleaning spray etc.
Suitable for wheelchairs - downstairs bathrooms and bedrooms and large sofa in the kitchen. Only the Gallery sitting room would be inaccessible.

No pets or smoking.
The yard outside the cottage was used as a local marketplace in the 19th century for the produce, livestock and wares of the village and neighbouring towns and was an important meeting place.
The yard has now been recently re-surfaced, giving Stabal yr Eglwysand the surrounding structures a polished finish.

This Ceredigion self catering cottage is located in the small village of Llanwenog, 10 minutes from the university town of Lampeter with its variety of local, independent shops and cafes. Award winning and nationally recognised ice cream is just moments away at the revered, yet relaxing cafe, Conti's. Shopping centres are not too far away, in the ancient town of Carmarthen and in the coastal town of Aberystwyth.
There are many rare and beautiful birds to watch locally, including the rare but recovering Red Kite, buzzards, song birds and owls. Sightings of foxes, badgers and squirrels are not uncommon and guests are bound to see one of the many rabbits that run free within the cottage grounds. Ceredigion boasts many nature reserves full of wildlife that are ideal for bird watching.
The culinary traditions of Ceredigion may be tasted at local restaurants in Lampeter, New Quay, Carmarthen, Newcastle Emlyn or one of the many rural restaurants. You may want to try some of the local recipes cooked with local produce yourself in the kitchen at Stabal yr Eglwys. A variety of shops can be found locally in the university town of Lampeter.
The popular twelfth century church of St Gwenog is situated in the village of Llanwenog, just opposite this Ceredigion self catering cottage. Attractions within reasonable driving distance include Oakwood leisure park, the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, local natural history, Cambrian Mountains, the Llanybydder mountains and local cultural events.
Local swimming pools within Ceredigion are plentiful with the nearest, Lampeter just 10 minutes away; others include: Newcastle Emlyn, Llandysul, Aberystwyth, Cardigan and Aberaeron. There are also many surfing sites across the mid-Wales coast. White water rafting, canoeing and other water sports are very popular in Ceredigion, especially along the river Teifi a few miles away.
Popular and rural beaches include New Quay (where you can see dolphins and seals), Penbryn, Tresaith, Llangrannog, Cardigan, Aberystwyth, Aberporth, Poppit Sands and Aberaeron. (Mostly all under half an hours drive away from this Ceredigion self catering cottage).
The Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Club offers white water rafting, canoes and kayaks with some spectacular scenery along the Teifi for the water sports enthusiasts. 8 miles
Ceredigion Water Sports Centre New Quay. 14.5 miles
Many local walks from the door step to suit all levels and abilities. Information on the local walking club and guides are available in the cottage. Teifi Trail 2 miles
The River Teifi is very close to the property and there are many locations ideal for fishing in the area. The outhouse has plenty of room for waders, angling equipment and a deep freeze for all the fish you catch. 2 miles
Troedybryn Fishery, 3 Lakes with Trout and course fishing – 7 miles
Sea fishing – Cardigan Bay is renowned for its bass and black bream and boats may be chartered from several of Ceredigion’s small ports. Ceredigion Coast 14 miles
Cilgwyn Golf Club is located in a secluded valley and is very picturesque. It's a flat parkland layout but the trees, ponds and streams give you plenty to think about as you try and plot your way around the course. 11 miles
There are many opportunities for cycling along local routes in the beautiful countryside of Ceredigion and bikes may be kept in the outhouse. Mountain bikers will benefit from being within a few miles of the Llanybydder mountains (Llanllwni and Pencarreg). Teifi Trail. 2 miles
As well as many local point-to-point horse races, there are riding schools and centres in Ceredigion and nearby. Short or long hacks, pub rides are all available at the Equestrian Centre in Lampeter 6 miles
