This West Wales self catering cottage is located on a farm about 1 mile from the small rural village of Capel Dewi and around 2.5 miles from Llandysul. The cottage is semi-detached to Yr Hufenfa Holiday Cottage. On the farm is a landmark glacial feature called Cerrig Hyllod (‘The Ugly Stones’) and visitors are welcome to follow the woodland path along the riverbank and up a fairly steep hill to the stony outcrop. Local history relates how these giant stones served in earlier times as a pulpit for a popular Welsh preacher who lived in the valley. Within walking distance, you can also visit Rock Mills, one of the few working traditional woollen mills left in the country, and the Honorwood Flock farm and shop specialising in Shetland and Icelandic fleeces and Angora mohair.
Nearby is the Teifi Trail, part of the National Cycle Network, which will take our cycling visitors through some wonderful scenery to the coast at Cardigan, or inland to the wild beauty of the nature reserves around Tregaron.
Less than 30 minutes drive from your West Wales self catering cottage will bring you to the beautiful coastline of Cardigan Bay, with its clean, unspoilt beaches at Poppit Sands, Llangranog, Penbryn, Mwnt, and charming harbour towns at New Quay, Tresaith and Newport Sands. The Heritage Coast Path provides cliff walking and stunning views all along the coast of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire with sights of rock pools, sea birds, seals and sometimes dolphins.
Dotted around the countryside are numerous ancient and medieval historical sites, from Celtic hill forts to Roman mines and Welsh monasteries from the Middle Ages. Also worth a visit from this West Wales self catering cottage are the National Botanic Garden of Wales and the restored 17th century house and garden at Aberglasney in Carmarthenshire. There is also a number of excellent restaurants and pubs in the vicinity where you can enjoy home made local fare or more exotic cuisine during your cottage holiday in West Wales. Whether you are interested in walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, golf, beach riding, browsing in local craft and antique shops or visiting historical sites, you will find a range of brochures in the holiday cottage.
A new community shop has recently opened in Capel Dewi, and supplies a wide range of groceries and wonderful homemade local cakes. It is open 6 days a week and run by volunteers. Coffee & teas are also available and it is definitely worth popping in even if only for a friendly chat.
