The Trevithick Trail is a lovely walk and is on the actual route taken by the first ever journey by a steam locomotive and runs from Merthyr Tydfil down to Abercynon. Richard Trevithick's steam locomotive ran on the 21 February 1804 many years before the more famous George Stephenson's locomotive.
Along the trail there are markers and information stands that mark out important landmarks along the way. This was a critical point in the Industrial Revolution as the railway boom across the world opening up vast continents all started here in the Taf Valley in South Wales.
A full replica of Richard Trevithick's locomotive built form his original plans is on show in the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea.
