Water Sports Holiday in Anglesey
Surrounded by 125 miles of coastline, Anglesey is a prime location for a water sports holiday. As an island, you will always be within half an hour of a beach that offers the perfect conditions for your chosen sport. Surfing, diving, kayaking, coasteering and sailing are all huge favourites, whilst Anglesey also has some of the best windsurfing and kite-surfing beaches in Britain.

Diving - Anglesey is a superb diving territory and is particularly popular given the vast number of shipwrecks around the coast. As an island, it offers contrast and all year round opportunities, along with the fascination of so many wrecks and reefs, most of them undiscovered. There are dives to match all abilities, though novices are strongly recommended to take lessons, which are available at Anglesey Divers in Holyhead.
Surfing - The best surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing conditions can be found at the long sandy beach of Rhosneigr on the island's west coast. Other popular surfing venues are Llanddwyn beach on the Menai Strait, Cable Bay and Porth Tyn Twyn.
Perhaps the principal centre for water sports on the island, Rhosneigr is well-served with shops and tourist facilities. It also has a number of organisations that provide guidance and courses for novices and improvers.
Kayaking - With such a beautiful coastline to discover, Anglesey is the perfect destination to explore with paddle power. Remote sandy coves, gaping sea caves and staggering sea cliffs are all there to be found. A number of local organisations are available to help all levels of ability.
Complete beginners can undertake instruction in a sheltered bay, whilst experienced paddlers might want to learn how to kayak on the challenging tidal races. If you wish to head off on an independent kayaking adventure, it is also possible to hire kayaks (paddling experience essential).
Coasteering is the fastest growing adventure sport in the UK and the Anglesey coastline lends itself perfectly to this adrenalin packed activity. With 125 miles of stunning natural unspoilt coastline, hidden coves and award winning beaches, Anglesey is quickly developing into a Mecca for coasteering and adventure seekers.
Sailing - You are never far from the coast in Anglesey, and certainly not far from the sea breeze. The island has a proud and significant sea faring history and is well facilitated with sailing clubs and harbour slipways.
You'll find information on maritime services and facilities provided by the council and other organisations on the Isle of Anglesey County Council website. Sailing clubs can be found at Red Wharf Bay, Holyhead, Rhosneigr, Trearddur Bay, and two, (the Royal Anglesey and the North West Venturers Yacht Club) at Beaumaris. Give them a call or pay a visit.
