Are you a keen runner, cyclist or triathlete and looking for a challenge next year? Well Wales has plenty of options for you. Challenging yourself in a sporting event is getting more and more popular and you no longer have to be an elite athlete to run a marathon or enter a bike race.
Here at Best of Wales we’ve looked at some of the key sporting events that take place next year. One to give you inspiration to enter one of them and two to get your accommodation booked to avoid disappointment.
So here is a run down of just some of next year’s events:
1. Aberystwyth Cycle Festival – Aberystwyth – 21st – 24th of May 2015
A weekend of cycling in the seaside town of Aberystwyth, including town centre criterium racing, downhill mountain biking at Constitution Hill and a mass participation ride. Aberystwyth Cycle Festival brings you the televised ‘Tour Series’ professional race to the famous promenade as the flagship event of the festival.

2. Trail Marathon Wales – Coed y Brenin, Dolgellau – 20th of June 2015
This event is establishing itself as one of Wales’ best trail marathons. With an option of a full marathon and half marathon around the paths and forest roads of Coed y Brenin this is a great event for any keen runner who isn’t afraid of a few hills. The area of Dolgellau is a beautiful area so why not extend your visit in one of our quality self catering cottages.
3. Velothon Wales – Cardiff – 14th of June 2015
Combining a closed road sportive alongside a UCI professional race, this will be a cycling event unlike anything Wales has ever seen before. Up to 15,000 riders will start from Cardiff on a completely closed road race of either 120km or 50km. An event not to be missed for any cyclists. 4. Snowdon Race – Llanberis – 11th – 18th of July
Ever wanted to race to the top of Wales’ highest mountain? Well this is your chance. Celebrating it’s 40th anniversary in 2015 the event will be a week long celebration of activities. Stay in the surrounding area and take in the spectacular scenery of one of our National Parks.
5. Ironman Wales – Tenby – 13th of September 2015
The pinnacle in Pembrokeshire’s events calendar the Ironman is a brutal race of swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running 26.2 miles. The whole area of Tenby and Saundersfoot has a festival feel to it, so as a spectator or athlete this is an event not to be missed. Take a look at our accommodation in the area.
