Dylan Thomas’ Laugharne Live

Written by Gareth on

The Dylan Thomas centenary year is already well under way, so we thought we would remind you that if you haven’t thought about getting in on the action, now is a good time to come to Wales, enjoy a luxury self catering cottage holiday and learn more about one of Wales’ favourite  poets.

Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea in October 1914 and during this centenary year, many events have been planned all over Wales to celebrate this occasion. One of the venues for many an event will be Laugharne, West Wales the place that will forever be linked with the name of Dylan Thomas, where he spent the last four years of his life with his wife and family, and where he wrote much of his most famous work in his writing shed.

This weekend from the 2nd –  5th May, Laugharne and the BBC will be hosting a free radio festival with live broadcasts  as well as a poetry and theatre weekend which will include a performance of Under Milk Wood by the National Theatre of Wales. If you are not yet familiar with the works of Dylan Thomas, here’s a taster in this video of one of his best known works, “Do not go Gentle into the good night”, read by some of Wales’ best known actors and performers, to get you in the mood:

With the focus being very much on this area for the year Best of Wales has some great cottages to offer you – why not check out Laugharne Cottage and Bwthyn Sancler close to Laugharne itself, and Bwthyn y Bardd in Llansteffan, where Dylan Thomas actually stayed (you can’t get better than that)!
