If you’re sitting at home twiddling your thumbs thinking of what to do with the family this May Bank holiday then twiddle no more! Wales will be bustling with various special May bank holiday events this year. From a spectacular battle re-enactment at Caernarfon Castle to May pole dancing in Snowdonia and from breathtaking organised walks in West Wales to a belly full of laughter at the Machynlleth Comedy festival; you will be sure to find something to suit you and all your family.

Here are some further details about these events and we hope you have a May bank holiday to remember here in Wales. If you need accommodation in any of these locations, feel free to call us or you can browse availability on the Best of Wales website.

Caernarfon Castle 5th – 6th May 2013

Bank Holiday Fun – Caernarfon Castle

Throughout both days there will be various activities including all day demonstrations of living history and medieval food, candle making workshops and weapon and archery talks and displays (11am and 2pm)

For children there will be special separate activities including arming a knight, quiz and a participatory medieval dance between 2-3pm and a spectacular battle re-enactment between 3-4:30pm.

Greenwood Forest Park 4th – 6th May 2013

Join in the festivities and get your children dressed up in fancy dress to receive a free ice lolly at the park throughout the weekend! Body art and face painting will be available throughout the 3 day event. Howard the Magician and Ricardo the Pirate will both be performing at the theatre at various times. You can also join in with the Morris dancers or have a dance around the May Pole with Helen (!) on Sunday and Monday.

Machynlleth Comedy Festival 2013

Come and join in the fun in Mid Wales with the famous Mach Comedy Fest, bursting with jam packed events throughout the weekend. Get your children (and you, if you’re brave enough!) to join in the fun at Pabell Pys Melys (Sweet Pea tent) by having a go at the rotten tomatoes and chicken challenge family workshops. If you’ve survived the Pabell Pys Melys, sit back and relax, at one of the comedy performances held in various venues in the town. A tip for you….wear something dark and bring your sunglasses as the comedians do tend to pick on the audience members for that extra comedy value #pickonmewiththeredfacewhydontyou

Cambrian Mountains – Bro Tregaron Walking weekend

With over 500 avid walkers attending this event last year be prepared for some (literally!) breathtaking walks over the 3 day event. There will be various walks to suit the beginner and the more experienced walkers amongst you. There will also be talks from experienced walkers who have braved the likes of Everest and Kilimanjaro so make sure you bring some comfy walking boots and eager ears to make the most of this weekend.
