Reviews

Spacious, well equipped & maintained. Remote location great for walkers but expect a 30+ min drive to most attractions.

Mrs E,

A beautiful property, in a great location. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Mr L,

Map

Bwthyn y Bannau adjoins Llety Llyn y Fan cottage and is located on a 100 acre working farm that specialises in organic lamb. Both lodges are set in the courtyard opposite the main farmhouse in the quiet rural village of Crai, set in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. The Westerly view from the ‘lodges’ looks out across the Crai Valley and up towards the spectacular Llyn-y -Fan, a lake of mythical legend as it is said that this is where the ‘Lady of the Lake’ appeared. This is red-kite country and kites can often be seen swooping above the farm.

The nearest local pub, shops and petrol stations are in Sennybridge, about 3 miles away. The traditional old market town of Brecon about 8 miles away. Cultural highlights include the Brecon Jazz Festival in August, the Hay Festival in late May/early June and the Green Man Festival held near Crickhowell in August. The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show in July and the Winter Fair in December both held in Builth Wells are highlights of the year for the agricultural community. The Rally also passes only a few miles from the cottage.

The Brecon Beacons is the first National Park in the United Kingdom to achieve Geopark status, and is also the first Geopark in Wales. Established in 1957 the park contains some of the most spectacular and distinctive upland formations in southern Britain covering an area of 1347 sq km (520 sq miles). There are numerous attractions in the area including the spectacular Ystradfellte waterfalls, The Brecon Mountain Railway and Dan yr Ogof Caves which is one of Wales’ premier family attractions and was also voted Britain’s finest natural wonder.

Despite its rural and peaceful location the cottage enjoys great road links to both Swansea (around 45 mins) and Cardiff (around 50mins). And a bus route to Brecon is located only a short walk away from the cottage.

Walks

Spectacular walks can be found in the Beacons National Park with the peaks of Pen y Fan, Cornddu and Criban, as well as the 90 kilometre Epynt Way. Paths run directly from the cottage. 0.1 miles.
