Reviews

The cottage was in an excellent location, had everything we needed, very clean and the owners who we spoke to were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend Ty Canol.

Mr P,

Tycanol is in a great location with wonderful views over farmland and countryside. The owners were very friendly and helpful with suggestions on places to visit in the local area. We will book here again.

Mr M,

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, immediately as soon as we entered the property it was lovely and warm and cozy and it stayed like that throughout our stay. Very spacious living room kitchen and bedrooms. 3 toilets really helped as we were 7 people all together. Small details like provided milk, towels , welcoming basked with really good and tasty Welsh cakes and bottle of wine . Very clean and freshly fragranced bedding. Lovely views of the sheep landscape . Hot tub was amazing and it was lovely to see that it was cleaned daily by the owner. Owner was helpful with any questions we had and was very chatty and friendly. Would definitely be recommending this property and hopefully we’ll be visiting again

Miss P,

Spotlessly clean and so warm considering it was down to minus 5 and snowed during our stay. Fantastic friendly helpful hosts.

Miss L,

Beautiful property attention to detail very clean and well equipped with everything friendly owners who were always on hand if needed would recommend for a quiet getaway

Mrs B,

A beautiful well laid out cottage, suited all of our needs. A very quiet rural setting. Dog friendly too ??

Mrs Angela H,

Map

Canoldy cottage is located a short walking distance from the local pub and train station in Cilmery, 2 miles from Builth Wells. The village is famous for being close to the spot where the last native Prince of Wales of direct descent, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, was slain in a skirmish by soldiers in the service of Edward I of England, on 11 December 1282. A memorial stone to Llywelyn ap Gruffudd was erected on the site in 1956 and serves as the focal point for the annual remembrance day.

The cottage is situated close to the Royal Welsh Showground, the Elan Valley Dams and an excellent 18 hole golf course. Many other activities are catered for locally including Mountain Biking, Fishing, Pony Treking and walking in the Brecon Beacons. There are also good eating places in the vicinity serving local produce.

Golf

Builth Wells Golf Club presents a fair challenge to golfers of all levels. It is attractively laid out in splendid surroundings and is a comfortable walk. The variety in the holes means that players at the end of their round will find that they have used most of the clubs in their bag at some time.

Horse Riding

There are many interesting bridal paths in the vicinity. There will also be stables on site in the near future, enabling guests to bring their own horses.

Walking & Cycling

This area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists with the Brecon Beacons National Park, Epynt Way, Wye Valley Walk and the Elan Valley all being close by.

Water Sports

The river Wye is popular as a navigable river with canoeists. Llangorse Lake, Pontsticill Reservoir (Merthyr Tydfil Sailing Club), the river Usk and the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal also offer opportunities for water sport.

Major Events in the area include:

Royal Welsh Show

The Royal Welsh Show is one of the most prestigious events of its type in Europe, and will once again be bringing together the farming industry and rural community in a celebration of the best of British Agriculture with a unique and very special 'Welsh' flavour. Be part of this exciting summer event at The Showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells. A real family event!

Other major events at the Showground include the 'Winter Fair' and the 'Small Holders & Garden Festival'.

The Guardian Hay Festival

The Hay Festival is an international festival that celebrates great writing in every medium in Britain and around the world.

Brecon Jazz Festival

For one August weekend a year, the streets of Brecon are alive with the sound of music as this small market town plays host to its annual jazz festival.
