Reviews

Clean, comfortable and very dog friendly

Miss Sonya H,

We stayed at the property for one week. I can only describe the cottage and surroundings as totally delightful. We enjoyed a relaxing holiday and country walks, like snowdonia national park, were within a short driving distance. The cottage was comfortable, very clean and well equipped. The only recommendations woukd be a fire extinguisher in the event of a fire. Also the post code took us to the door step of the next door neighbours property, there wasn't a sign post for car merllyn on the self catering property information on arrival. Really looking forward to our next stay at cae merllyn

Miss Julie R,

Absolutely fabulous cottage. Lots to do close by. Lovely dog friendly and sunny garden to have breakfast and relax at the end of the day. Will definitely be coming again.

Ms Louise B,

The property was described as on a working farm but the main work seemed to be related to lorries/tarmac lorries. No potato peeler or masher provided. Minimum information provided regarding local places of interest - expected a better Welcome pack giving details of local walks and places of interest. No instructions provided on microwave and TV instructions unclear. If more info had been provided this would have had a positive effect on the score as the location of property in itself was good.

Mrs Rose K,

Some inventry items were missing, and some of those that were there, did not work correctly. Cleanliness in General was not too bad, but there were cobwebs hanging with moths / fly`s in them, behind the TV for instance was that much dust and rubbish, it had not been cleaned for some time in my opinion.

Mr Garry H,

I property was beautiful and the surroundings are beautiful, just a couple of things that could be better, proper mugs in the kitchen not everybody like fine china cups, the pans and frying pans are well past there life span they where scratched and burnt baked on something, a jug & some tea towels for drying up. In the bathroom head hight was a problem in the shower I am 6,2 and my friend is 6,4 so not the most comfortable experience (I know this can’t be helped) also in the bathroom the lack of ventilation explains the mold and peeling paint on the ceiling. The rest of the downstairs was ok but dog hair was also a problem. Upstairs the bedrooms were very clean, the floorboards could do with looking at, if you needed the bathroom durning the night walking on them boards woke the whole house up. Overall I would most definitely visit again like I say it was beautiful and I don’t let little things like above put a damper on it, you just get on with it. The reason I’ve pointed all these things out is so you can improve it for the next person.

Mr Connor B,

The property was charming and cosy, it's location was beautiful as were all of people I met on the farm... As a owner 4 hectic but very friendly city dogs the owners couldn't of more accommodating, gave me a paddock next to the cottage to use so they coul have a run around. I consider the price to be more reasonable bearing in mind I took four dogs, will be booking next if I'm allowed back with the pack.

Mr Graham C,

The marks given on the questionnaire stand well and we had a relaxing holiday, however there was a few minor issues which the owners need to addres i.e the heated towel rail in the bathroom if turned on floods the bathroom with a rather bad leak, as two does a loose tap on the bathroom sink, not tight onto sink underneath so when used also unless very careful also floods bathroom, quite a few light bulbs gone which I switched builds round to balance light, and a pity the light in the fire was not working which would have gave the lounge a cosier feel, these points are not ment to undermined the fact we had a wonderful experience break.

Mr Malcolm D,

We didn't score equipment as highly as the outside light did not work, the potato peeler was broken, the tin opener did not work properly, the knives were all blunt. No dishwasher tablets, soap, sponge and dishcloth were provided as advertised. Could have been perfect. No mechanism was provided to feedback to the owners.

Mr Tony S,

Map

Cae Merllyn holiday cottage in Snowdonia National Park is situated on a working farm in Brithdir, 2 miles from Dolgellau. At the foot of Cader Idris mountain it provides an excellent location to explore Mid and North Wales.

There is a highly commended restaurant less than a mile from this Dolgellau holiday cottage and plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants 2 miles up the road in Dolgellau itself. The cottage offers excellent walking, water sports and mountain biking (Coed-y-Brenin) and is within 20 minutes drive of the sandy beaches at Barmouth and Fairbourne.

Attractions in the area include the Centre for Alternative Technology and Slate Caverns in Corris, the majestic Harlech Castle (World Heritage site) as well as traces of earlier occupation throughout the area, such as hill forts, stone circles and even a Roman amphitheatre.

The nearby Mawddach Estuary is another beautiful and largely unspoilt gem which is well worth a visit, not to mention the Corris Craft Centre, King Arthur's Labyrinth (a great family day out), narrow gauge railways galore and the RSPB Bird Reserve at Penmaenpool.
