Reviews

Lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet location. Ticked all the boxes for providing the home comforts you hope you are going to get when renting a holiday cottage. Wish all owners were as friendly and helpful as May!! Would definitely recommend to friends and other family.
Recommendations: Try and do as much as you can even if the weather is bad. Ffestiniog railway as they allow dogs; Caernarfon castle and walled town; Barmouth for the beach; Dolgellau for bike hire to cycle to Barmouth on the Mawddach Trail; Coed-Y-Brenin for intrepid walkers and mountain bikers; Dolgoch Waterfalls, Betws y Coed and anything else you can squeeze in. There is plenty to see and do in this particular area of Wales. Don't miss eating at The Steakhouse in Dolgellau, the best meal we had in our two week stay, or tea and cake in the T H Roberts Coffe/Tea Shop in Dolgellau.Family from Hampshire - 4th July 2017
My stay was perfect. We based ourselves here so we could drive around and visit other parts of North Wales. Great location and the property was very good with great views and easy location for seeing other areas.
Recommends: Must go up Mount Snowdon, the train is a great way to do it. So many places to go but can suggest Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Llandudno, Caernarfon, Portmeirion, Porthmadog.Stuart from London - 18th June 2017
Friendly helpful host, lovely location, spacious accomodation but only used for 6 rather than 8 people. Welsh people were also very welcoming.
Teips: Explore the countryside, use the train up the coast from Barmouth.Guests from Somerset - 18th June 2017
The property was lovely, modern and clean, well equipped with all the essentials, the pictures advertised didn't do it justice. The views were amazing. If you want to relax or just tour about then this is an absolute dream place to stay. Even the Dog gave it top marks! We will be back.Steven from West Yorkshire - 13th June 2017
Fabulous views from the property made the week even more special!
Tips: Climb Cadair Idris.
Walk up to the lake behind the property and do some wild swimming.
Play cricket on the beach in Fairbourne.Family from Stonehouse - 20th August 2016

Abaty Cymer Abbey, Dolgellau

The serene ruins of Cymer Abbey stand in a lovely setting beside the River Mawddach. The abbey was founded by Cistercian monks in a typically remote setting. Even by the austere standards of the Cistercians, life must have been hard at Cymer - the abbey suffered badly during the troubled 13th century, the wars between England and Wales probably accounting for the failure to complete the original p...

Local Area

Set in a private, elevated position with great views towards the Cader Idris range, this detached self catering Dolgellau cottage stands above the village of Llanelltyd in southern Snowdonia. Only 2 miles from the centre of Dolgellau with its range of amenities and just 8 miles from Barmouth’s Blue Flag, sandy beach.

There are plenty of interesting shops, great cafes, pubs and restaurants in the picturesque market town of Dolgellau. There are also more listed buildings in Dolgellau than in any other town in Wales - over 200 in fact. For amazing cakes and free wifi, visit T.H.Roberts’ Parliament House, or eat out at Meirionydd and Dylanwad Da. For a quiet drink, Unicorn is a lovely setting. There are also many highly recommended restaurants outside the town, such as Bwyty Mawddach and George III at Penmaenpool.

Mountains and coastal walks are amongst the main local attractions, along with sandy beaches at Barmouth and Fairbourne, the world renowned Coed Y Brenin Mountain Biking Centre and the Go Ape High Wire Course. The Mawddach trail, a 9 mile riverside trail along an old railway line from Dolgellau to Barmouth, is perfect for walking or cycling. Other attractions include the National White Water Rafting Centre near Bala, Harlech Castle’s World Heritage site and Talyllyn narrow gauge railway.

Other great days out from this self catering Dolgellau cottage include King Arthur’s Labyrinth, which is great for families, Corris Slate Caverns and Corris Craft Centre. If that’s not enough, what about something even more adventurous such as the longest zip wire ride in Europe at Bethesda or the world’s largest underground trampoline at Blaenau Ffestiniog for a totally different and unique experience.
