Reviews

We enjoyed a very good week at Holly Bank. The bungalow is spacious, well maintained and spotlessly clean; the location is delightful and the grounds are beautiful. Communication with the owner was very good and her suggestion for Sunday Lunch, The Brigands, was excellent. With so many of us using SatNav I would like to see the directions to all cottages include the map reference / what3words to make life easier especially in more remote areas where postcodes con cover large areas. Minimal downsides but there were no instruction leaflets for any of the appliances / heating; no broom/mop (not all of us can get down on the floor with dustpan and brush) and departure by 9:30 is somewhat unrealistic for a family of up to eight persons.

Mr Brian C,

Map

Set in a private, elevated position with great views towards the Cader Idris range, this detached self catering Dolgellau cottage stands above the village of Llanelltyd in southern Snowdonia. Only 2 miles from the centre of Dolgellau with its range of amenities and just 8 miles from Barmouth’s Blue Flag, sandy beach.

There are plenty of interesting shops, great cafes, pubs and restaurants in the picturesque market town of Dolgellau. There are also more listed buildings in Dolgellau than in any other town in Wales - over 200 in fact. For amazing cakes and free wifi, visit T.H.Roberts’ Parliament House, or eat out at Meirionydd and Dylanwad Da. For a quiet drink, Unicorn is a lovely setting. There are also many highly recommended restaurants outside the town, such as Bwyty Mawddach and George III at Penmaenpool.

Mountains and coastal walks are amongst the main local attractions, along with sandy beaches at Barmouth and Fairbourne, the world renowned Coed Y Brenin Mountain Biking Centre and the Go Ape High Wire Course. The Mawddach trail, a 9 mile riverside trail along an old railway line from Dolgellau to Barmouth, is perfect for walking or cycling. Other attractions include the National White Water Rafting Centre near Bala, Harlech Castle’s World Heritage site and Talyllyn narrow gauge railway.

Other great days out from this self catering Dolgellau cottage include King Arthur’s Labyrinth, which is great for families, Corris Slate Caverns and Corris Craft Centre. If that’s not enough, what about something even more adventurous such as the longest zip wire ride in Europe at Bethesda or the world’s largest underground trampoline at Blaenau Ffestiniog for a totally different and unique experience.
