Local Area

This is a 17th century thatched cottage in the peaceful little hamlet of Gileston in the Vale of Glamorgan. The village of St Athan is only 0.5 miles away and includes a local shop and pub. Aberthaw Power station is nearby and part of it can be seen from the garden. The county market towns of Llantwit Major and Cowbridge are only 4 and 5 miles away and Rhoose with its railway station offers a direct link into the centre of Cardiff (only 3 miles away).

Nominated as one of the best places to live in the UK, Llantwit Major is a lovely county town with numerous pubs and shops. Located on the coast with a good surf beach it also has a railway station with a direct link into the centre of Cardiff. The historic town of Cowbridge has many fine boutiques, restaurants, cafes and pubs. The all Wales coastal path can be joined following only a short walk from the cottage and there are many other walks and trails throughout the area.

Cardiff is a city of attractions, sport, culture and entertainment. It has many famous attractions including the Principality Stadium, Cardiff Castle, St. Davids' Hall, New Theatre and St. Davids 2 shopping centre. Cardiff has notched up a fine reputation as a sporting capital thanks to the quality of the events and facilities.

Cardiff International Airport is less than 10 minutes away, as are many beaches along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Fonmon Castle, and the world famous Atlantic College.

There are many walks including the Glamorgan Heritage Coastal Path. 0.2 miles


Fishing


Fantastic sea fishing in the Bristol Channel from both from boat and the shore. 0.2 miles


Golf


One of the closest courses is Cottrell Park, an idyllic venue set in the heart of 400 acres of beautiful Parkland. 1.5 miles. Other nearby courses include The Vale Resort (3.4 miles) and the prestigious Celtic Manor, host to the 2010 Ryder Cup (29 miles).


Cycling


The quiet country lanes found in the Vale are ideal for cycling. 0.5 miles


Pony trekking


Liege Manor Equestrian Centre is Wales' premier equestrian centre and home to over 70 horses and ponies. The Centre specialises in tuition for all ages and abilities. 5 miles


Beaches


Along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast there are numerous beaches, from Llantwit Major beach (3 miles), to the more peaceful and stunning beach at Southerndown (11 miles).
