Things to see

Walking in Llandovery

The Crychan and Halfway Forest (Red Kite country) is set in beautiful countryside nestling between the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains. There are miles of paths and trails that take you through tranquil grassy gorges, along old drover's routes and past cascading waterfalls, taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains of Mid Wales.

Cycling in Llandovery

The relatively flat Tywi Valley soon starts to buckle and burst into life as the Brecon Beacons make their presence felt, east of Llandeilo and towards Llandovery. As the valley skirts the western side of the Brecon Beacons and then snakes its way lazily towards Carmarthen, you can follow the path of the river from Llandeilo and you’re gifted with views that are normally reserved for Arthurian l...

Local Area

This holiday cottage adjoins the main farmhouse on a working farm in the Tywi Valley near the market town of Llandovery with all amenities including banks, post office, restaurants, local shops and producers and supermarkets. Llandeilo (10 miles) offers boutique shops and restaurants and the larger town of Brecon is 23 miles away. On the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park there are gardens and nature parks, castles, houses, forests and hills to look at and explore, either on foot, by bike or car.

Llandovery is located in the Upper Towy (Twyi) valley, bounded by three rivers. Its name means 'church amidst the waters'. It has a historical heritage dating back to Roman times, was an important drovers’ town and it has ruins of a Norman castle and also churches and some fine Georgian houses. Close by are Cilycwm, Rhandirmawn and Llyn Brianne Reservoir which are beautiful places to walk, cycle or drive.

Myddfai (approx 3 miles away) is now the Welsh residence of Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. The 'Physicians of Myddfai' from medieval times became renowned for herbal remedies and they are also associated with the local legend of the Lady of the Lake, Llyn-y-Fan Fach. The house is at the western edge of the Brecon Beacons

National Park, an area of special landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage, and Fforest Fawr Geopark, the area designated in 2005 by UNESCO because of its outstanding geological heritage. The 'Heart of Wales' Railway line offers the opportunity to see some spectacular scenery including the Cynghordy Viaduct.

There are also many castles: in Llandeilo there’s Dinefwr Castle, and our favourite - Carreg Cennen Castle, one of the most dramatic fortresses on top of a limestone crag and with fantastic views. Aberglasney Gardens and the National Botanic Gardens of Wales are essential visits for all those who love gardens.
