Description

This quintessential chocolate box retreat sits off the beaten track, surrounded by peaceful nature and wildlife, including kingfishers, owls, mink and otters and is the most central salmon river in South Wales. No road in sight, just a running river, and a cycle track which brings the occasional ramblers and roamers past your secluded riverside haven. Yet, you are only a stone’s throw away from shopping heaven and City nightlife. The retreat provides a perfect base for families to explore all the very best South, Mid and West Wales has to offer. Should you feel the need to escape the peace and tranquillity there are plenty of adventures to be had nearby, with one of the best surf beaches in Wales only 11 miles away, and the fastest seated zipline in the UK just 20 miles north. Cross over the footbridge to this peaceful haven where your gorgeous cottage with country cottage garden awaits.

As you step through the front door you enter to a warm and welcoming kitchen area with a breakfast table. The kitchen is well equipped for all your needs and is a lovely space to create some tasty dishes for all to enjoy. A downstairs WC and shower are located on the other side of the kitchen. Stepping through in to the main room of the home is a spacious sitting/dining room complete with a wood burner for those cooler evenings. The large windows on both sides creates a light and relaxing space to enjoy reading, watching a film or relaxing to the sounds of the countryside. A handy boot room at the back door means there is plenty of space to hang coats, store walking shoes and dry those wet paws. Head up the winding staircase where you will find two relaxing bedrooms one twin and one double both enjoy wonderful views over the gardens and have ample storage for your belongings. A wet room with WC, hand basin and large heated towel rail complete the interior of this charming home.

You can access the beautiful gardens via the front door as well as a glass door from the living room. The decking area sweeps around the property ensuring there is plenty of opportunity to chase the sun or shade whatever your preference. The large, decked area to the side of the property overlooking the river is the perfect place for some alfresco dining using the chimenea. There is plenty of lawned garden for children and dogs to roam but please supervise at all times as there is direct access to the riverbank.

Reviews

Wonderful place to to stay for a romantic break or with the family. Lovely to sit by the river read a book, watch the wild life or take in the view. Lots to do for teens , cycling and fishing on your doorstep and only 20 mins from an array of beautiful beaches. The house is well kept and cosy with a distinct cottage feel. Very well equipped with everything you need and the welcome treats of fresh flowers, fresh coffee and more were a lovely touch. Can’t wait to come back!

Mrs C,

Lovely location to unwind and disconnect . Such a special place with direct access to the river and a plethora of wildlife to hear and see. Very cosy welcoming home. Lovely walks on our doorstep. Would highly recommend.

Miss Lema C,

Clean, comfortable and lovely location.

Mrs H,

Really lovely cottage in a nice remote location! The log fire was the highlight of our stay and we really enjoyed it. The beds were lovely and comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. We were down visiting family and wanted to bring the dogs for a change. Would definitely stay again.

Miss T,

Kingfisher River Retreat is a delightful home-from-home and peaceful cottage. Perfectly situated for a relaxing break, with wildlife including dippers and kingfishers on the doorstep. The owners ensured that everything was cosy and comfortable for our stay over Christmas, including festively decorating the house. The outside lights guiding us to the cottage when we arrived after dark were delightful. The house was well equipped and the beds very comfortable. We enjoyed walks right from the door with my little dog and if you get the time Ogmore-by-Sea is a beautiful and dog-friendly beach only 20mins drive away. The cottage is thoroughly recommended.

Mrs R,

The cottage was everything we imagined, a real get away from it all, piece and quiet with nature and the weather was stunning for the whole week.

Mr C,

We had a lovely break in this cottage. It was really quiet and peaceful and we loved being right next to the river. Easy drive to various beaches. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well-equpped for cooking. Being right next to a cyclepath/footpath was ideal for dog-walking. Thanks for having us.
